Bonjour all,

I have a little marketing question for you. This is probably up to the publisher though (if any).  8)

If you answer no in the poll, please give a suggestion for an international name (optional).

Bonsoir all,

I have come up with a couple of suggestions of my own…  8)

For the international release. Why not simply call it “Grognards” without the “Les” or “Grumblers”, which is the English word for Grognards.

I also have a completely different name as an alternative...

“Napoleon: Commander in chief”.

This is the way I’m thinking:

Citation de: "JMM"

I think Histwar is not really a "wargame", nor a RTS. Maybe Histwar is the first FPC (First Person Commander :p), because you're really in the action, but you still command 100 regiments...

Therefore I think “Commander in chief”, or C-in-C for short, reflects the nature of the game and gives you a good hint what this game is all about.

sunray is absolutely correct on this one.

This is called "a no brainer."

When Les Grognards comes out, it won't matter what it is called.  JMM, you could call it "Suzy's Blue Dress" and it's impact won't be lessened one bit.  In my opinion, the world could do with a bit more French being spoken.   :D

Could work, but nothing that makes me jump for joy. :P

I think a translation of "Les Grognards de Napoléon" to English, for the International release, will do just fine i.e. "Napoleon's Grognards".  :)

The term "Grognards" is well known among wargamers. And "Napoleon" (perhaps the most well known person in the world thru all times) can possibly attract new wargamers.  8)

If I seek for a Napoleonic game I would look for a game with "Napoleon" in the title.

I like the first two better than the last.  In my opinion, "Napoleonic" is an all encompassing term that covers everything and everyone during this important Era.  Actually, I like the first one best.   It is pretty cool.

Napoleon's Eagles http://ucsu.colorado.edu/~trochim/NE/NE.html  Imperial Eagles too close to Imperial Glory http://www.imperialglory.com/ .

How about Napoleon's Marshals ?   Napoleon's Grognards doesn't sound too bad either, although just having Grognard in the title may be a turn off to some.  Grogs like ugly games.

Honestly, I think that LES GROGNARDS is just fine. Apart from that, perhaps THE OLD GUARD.

While us wargamers and historians know and recognise 'Les Grognards', many will not and won't have a clue what it means or what a game given that title will include. remember we want this game to sell to a wide audience, not just the hard core wargaming audience.

I would suggest a title with 'Napoleon' in it, then the subject matter is no longer in doubt.

How about 'Napoleon's Wars' or 'Napoleon, Empire and War', or 'The Campaigns of Napoleon' or something that summarises both the subject matter and game content.
Cheers, Martin

Another idea that's just a mix of others:

Napoleon: Les Grognards

which allows the publisher to put Napoleon in bigger letters (I'm sure they'll like that), still keeps the excellent Les Grognards name, and leave some space for sequels (Napoleon: the Old Guard, Napoleon: Empire, Napoleon: the Hundred Days, etc.)

Just my two cents.

Ob by the way that OoB is killer! I want to buy the game just for that :D
