What does "!Not enough units: ignored order" mean?
« le: 31 août 2014, 23:47:14 pm »
Having problems with an unresponsive subordinate again. This time the battle is Durenstein and the Corps is Dupont's. I have ordered him to march East and he has acknowledged the order but the "Book" states that he has no orders and the message window at the top says "!Not enough units: ignored order". The whole battle seems to have gone dead-the Russians don't appear to be doing anything either.

Hello Gullwing91

if you are playing with 'delayed orders' option turned on the order to Dupont might
take some time to arrive; if message is captured even longer (if the option is turned on)
Consequently if the order has not reached Dupont he might not have any troops/or enough
troops mustered up to follow the march order.
It takes a little while to get used to things not doing anything as the AI opposite to you
may have calculated that the odds for an attack against a sector are not favorable and
opted to be cautious to deploy in defense if you attack.

I asked in a different post for JMM to make a video presentation (in French) to explain
the nuances of the tactical AI's in the game. It would help all the new members as well
as the old to get a better grip on the mechanics of the game.

Best regards

Gullwing91:
I played this great scenario few times and had the same problem with Dupont´s corps. If they don´t move or refuse to follow orders, just try to affialiate some Dupont´s unit with another corps on the battlefield, or manage them manually.

One small hint, try to play battles as commanding to both sides. When you choose to play only for one side againts AI, I think there are some problems with order of battle for opposition army and this causes some subsequent problems in course of the battle. When you choose commanding to both sides, initial positioning of corps and collonnes seems to be historically accurate (as I know). Then for example just give orders to collonnes of coalition army, then switch to french army and for the rest of battle manage only Mortier´s army. In Durenstein scenario it is very crucial to simulate bad timing of arrival of coaliton army, so just delay your orders to every single collonne.

Thanks, that's helpful. Yes I do play with those options on. But in this case, I have sent three sets of orders and they have all been acknowleged as received and to be acted on, so it isn't that. Could it be something like the Corps size being too small to be seen as viable for the AI?

I will try commanding from both sides, though that rather spoils the fog of war. That in fact reminds me of another problem I'm having-even on the highest difficulty level if you highlight an enemy unit you find out everything about it, even its morale. I feel it should just say "Enemy infantry" or something like that with a vague indication of numbers. As they get closer more information could become available as no doubt the professional soldiers of the period would have known a lot about the enemy units they were facing (and thinking of an incident from the Crimean War, might have met their commanders  socially  ;) )

Hi,

!Not enough units: ignored order : this message is sent when there is not any unit attached to the corps.

vague indication of numbers : with the information "vague", you get very poor information on the enemy unit; the quality of information varies with the distance.

Sorry for the delay about the answer but I worked a lot on the new patch for HistWar : Les Grognards.
Some new adjustments will be included in the next patch for HistWar : Napoleon.

I must work on the different files .sav received during these last weeks in order to fix the possible bugs.

I hope to finish the new patch for HW:N on the end of this week with the final new buildings.
After that, I must work on the Div/Brigade AIs.
Elie is working on the new GUI and probably some screenshots very soon.
Romain is working on the 3D Models and uniforms... This last activity needs a lot of time...

Yes... I know I have to explain the game... I think a lot of players don't use all features of HW.
I hope the GUI will show these features  in more detail. Patience  ;)

Don't forget to watch this video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aD67nZbOgHs with English subtitles.
And the first one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWSLTbHm41k

Best regards.

PS : Durenstein is a very difficult battle for the AI. I'll work on the Great Tactical AI to improve it after implementation of new 3D Models (probably a very hard task because we have to redesign a part of the graphical 3D engine...)
