Battle Of Zerbst (Prussian perspective)
The day of the battle opened with the Prussian army under (Hohenlohe) Strung out on the march with regiments arriving at half hourly intervals. This being due to the withdrawal from the previous battle and reinforcements arriving on the field.
Initially the army held its ground avoiding contact till more of the troops arrived.
The battle started early afternoon with a small number of regiments gallantly defended themselves against the French onslaught. However the French superiority in numbers soon took their toll
against the Prussian defenders. The Prussian II ( von Kalkreuth) and III Corps ( Bulow) being all but annihilated, however their sacrifice was not in vain, a counter attack by the I Corps (Blucher) supported by the IV Corps (Thielmann) being initially successful against the French (Dutch Corps) the attack only being defeated by the LOC being blocked by the French. The V Corps ( Yorck) held in reserve covered the withdrawal of the remnants of the Prussian Army till night fell and the army successfully disengaged.
Lessons to be learned for CiC (Prussia)
When withdrawing on the ATG map, do not withdrawal to a hex beside the pursuing enemy forces. The river did not provide an obstacle, although it may delay the enemy entering the battlefield in full strength.(river crossings/assaults in HWLG, due to game map making restrictions are not possible, as they( the rivers) cannot be represented geographically, correctly on the map).
Perhaps would have been better to withdrawal to a hex/hexes further away, this would have forced the Enemy player to expend more AP(Action Points) before renewing the battle.
