I don't see how RAR can be "extremely problematic to" you.
I don't know why but I'd many problems using RAR and very few when using ZIP.....
Maybe It is only because I seldom used RAR. (I'd also read critics from other occasionnal compi. users about difficulties of this soft....)
Another explanation is I now have a computer of the first generation of 64 bits :Winzip was installed -and operationnal- but RAR needs adjustments , as it appears in the link you sent me.
I experimented various other problems with this compi. on Win7 and 64bits. One of the worst being a continuous stream of upgrades in which I seldom know which one are really necessary, and the boring calls to load Google chrome, new Explorer etc...when I just begin to understand the present configuration

As there are "Babies" computers, maybe MS should think of a "Oldies" Win77 with a short learning curve for tired brains
