Campaigns vs One off battles
« le: 31 mai 2012, 11:30:11 am »
The Third party Campaigns will represent the period more effectively because Strategic Manouvering places the other major powers of the period on a more equal footing.  EiA in our Campaign add more political background to the engagements of the time period, with very little efffort.

Mistakes made by the French enemies do not have to be followed as in a historical sense, here as of course we all have the benefit of hindsight of the period.  For example we have had campaigns where there has been an early alliance against France and she has been beaten in 1805/1806.  Ive seen where once the French can be managed to be beaten, then a new power vacum starts and this puts a whole new dynamic of the Napoleonic period to come into place.

Its quiet refreshing to see a another "what if" come into play, rather than a repeat of history, which seems to be repeated time and time again by a lot of enthusiasts.

New types of alliance are formed for example one game I was in the French got soundly beaten. Then a power vacum occurred where Austria and Prussia allied and beat Russia, to a stand still. This created more dynamics and continued hostilities where historically all these countries where allied

Austria played a very large part in the Napoleonic Period and this country will be represented more fairly than in a one off battle. Austria was at war with France twice by herself against France in the period, and nearly won in the 1809 Campaign.

The contribution that Austria made cannot be underestimated, and under the right command leadership can and political support from other countries, could change and has changed the historical sequence of events in many games that have been played.

One off battle there is hardly anyone that plays Austria we have noted, because Austrian Generals do not seem to be as good on paper, but Strategically they can be better than a lot of French Generals.

EiA manages battle abstractly and is a fair representation sometimes,  But EiA has a Third Party export file which is made in game, and the results of a battle played by Third Party Battlefield game such as HWLG put a far better result into play, then the the results are imported back into the game system only EiA can do that.

If you have looked at a EiA strategic map what you see there are numerous strategic contact areas, each of these areas are Operational areas,  if an opposing side make strategic combat., then a Strategic combat occurs an all possible area with friendly units have the chance to reinforce the Strategic contact Operational area.

Operational Areas are then handled by our Operational Combat Manager based on the forces represented, and a HWLG battle can occur as quickly as one session between opposing Operational commanders.  When a HWLG battle takes place Army Commander and Corps commanders can be represnted here as you know.
The operational map manouvers can be complex, depending on the map, and where Operational LOC's have a bearing on manouvering.  Each commander has to be sure to keep there LOC protected, or ensure there is an alternative LOC can be traced back to a supply Depot source or Garrison.

We will post a movie of the HWLG battle for Volzhton tell us what you think

Furthermore all the Napoleonic years are represented not just the one year or campaign.

Gazfun,

Thanks so much for creating this great system of campaigning.  I had a quick question because I don't yet own EiA, but find your system of play very interesting.  I was wondering if it was possible to play as a single-player against the EiA AI and then resolve the battles third party using HWLG, then import the results back into EiA?  In other words, does EiA's export/import system for battle results only work with a human multi-player system, or could a single-player use the system properly?  I hope this makes sense.

Yes you can play EiA vs the AI but it is not a real brilliant challenge it relies on bonus Political points to be competitive, rather than great stategy.
Make sure you have the EiA Third Party option enabled. You will find that minor battles and sieges are best conducted by minor combat rules.  The battle that you request to be as third party will give you that export file, and then inport the results, when you are finished with the HWLG battle.
We have also made conversion chart of factors to convert to CEH to make the HWLG OOB. You can make your own foe example 1 EiA troops factor is equal to 1.5CEH.
We have have our own recommendation for the ratio mix, but its not hard to do your own.

Excellent.  Thank you so much, gazfun, for responding.  I would love to see your recommendations for equalizing EiA troop numbers for HWLG CeH.  Is there a good link to follow for this?  Thanks again for discovering this great idea.
