Is this the game for me

I have been a napoleonic wargamer for many years. 

My life long interest has been wargaming with model soldiers.
However I have dabbled with computer games, with mixed results

I got on very well with Waterloo and Austerlitz.   Very easy to pick up, very similar to wargaming with models

But not so well with Cossacks II.  I could never get beyond the first stage
And even worse with Empire in Arms, which I could not even get started on.
It may be that computer games are just too complicated for me

I was tempted to buy HistWar when it was first released.
But just before I had bought Empire in Arms, and that put me off computer games completely.

However I keep looking at HistWar.   
Only now the options seem very complicated

So a little advice please

I have tried to download the tutorial, but it does not work

Given my previous experience with computer games, is this a game for me?

Which of the many options available would be the best to buy?

First advice is to assure, that the game will work properly. So if you already downloaded the demo and it didnt work, you need technical support. Then there should be figured out if there`s an issue, and of course it must be resolved.

2nd you get all the game-features if you get the basic version. The more expensive versions are mainly to support the developer-team. So from your point of view it is absolutely enough to buy this, so your own risk is acceptable, if you wont really get in touch with this game either.
But different to other games, in histwar you can benefit from several layers of AI. The AI basically is in command of each and every unit of your army, and cares about what can be considered as proper decission from its perspective in the very instant of action. Histwar isnt really about micromanagement, although you have the opportunity to do so. Preferably you are to give the major directives to your commanders and only intervene if you feel further meassurements are necessairy.

I can't find the demo.
In one of the other forum there is a message from JMM that it has been withdrawn awaiting a new patch
Is that still the case?
If it is available where do I find it?


Also could you confirm if there is a tutorial as part of the game?

The demo is theoretical suspended for waiting the next patch.
In the demo (and also in the game), there is 2 tutorial, one for each GUI...
The final GUI is always in progress...

Hi,

I fixed several majors and minors issues on the Artillery; some new procedures to improve the behaviours of this kind of units. Happy for that...
That said, I can see some bad behaviours about the Cavalry when this one is engaged against the Artillery. and sometimes against the defensive line.
I would like to fix these problems before building the new Demo... and the new patch also...

Sorry... you have to wait for getting the new version.. but I hope this one will be very fine...

Any idea when the demo will be available.   I appreciate that these things take time, but I am very tempted to get this game.  However given my past difficulties with computer games I really do want to try out the demo first.

Sorry for the delay...
After several adjustments, beta test team continues to report some bad behaviours... I must fix them... I hope very soon but always difficult to give a date.
That said, it seems my work during the last months give some nice results...
