Targeting in the doctrine?
« le: 16 décembre 2003, 11:56:37 am »
Bonjour JMM,

In the tactical doctrine will you be able to select the targets for your guns?
Let's say that you want to prioritise the auto targeting like this:
First target immediate threats,
then cavalry,
then infantry
and last artillery.

Bonjour Lars,

Yep... small difference:
If there are many targets, and no immediate threats, AI uses the doctrine to choose his target... and the doctrine defines the priority : unit or cannon...
(don't forget, there is cannon in ART, but too INF unit)

Bonjour JMM,

Citer
unit or cannon...

Does that means that you will not be able to target cavalry specificly? Perhaps it can be changed in a 1.1 release.

So cannons and cannon crew can be targeted seperatly. That was more sofisticated than I thought.  :)

Yep... I can add this feature today, but I am no sure the difference will be important... I think about this

Sorry Lars, but my sentence isn't right... the correct one is " cannon in regiment/compagny of Artillery   , but too cannon in regiment of infantry  (no the cannon crew  )

Bonjour JMM,

The difference is important to me as it is a part of my tactic to first destroy the enemy cavalry. If I can do that then I will have a tactical advantage for the rest of the battle. No enemy cavalry to worry about while I got my own cavalry intact and can force enemy infantry into squares and shoot them to pieces.
At least it could work in theory.

I f you can do this in 1.0 then its great,  :D   but first priority must be to make the demo ready for Christmas.  :noel:

No problem, I understand now.

By the way, What is considered immediate threats by the AI?

Ok Lars, I'll add this fetaure.. (your comments are convincing 8)

About the Demo   not yet for Christmas

About the threat... Each unit A (HQ, INF CAV and each cannon) looks for all units (for the 2 sides)  in his neighbourhood.. If there are some opponents B (with the good orientation) which can create some losses.. these units B are threatening and the unit A can modify his order (simple example: the square, or halt his movement, or cannon can changes his target, or can modify his position...)

I hope it's clear 8)
JMM
(sorry again for the delay.. the end of this process isn't easy.. I have to find the best behaviour for the GUI... May I can show some new screenshots)

I'm glad to hear that you'll add that feature. This whole doctrine feature of yours is very impressive.  :D

I'm sorry to hear about the demo but sh*t happens and all we can do is to sit and wait. All good comes to those who wait.  8)

Perhaps we can have some screenshots of the 3D units for Christmas instead.  :noel:

I am back...

Because I read your question again..

It's not possible to join some Coys into a regiment.. but you can re-affect your units (regiment or compagny) into a Artillry Corps...

(accuracy) JMM
