Hello Gentleman,
After reading this thread started by Gunner and the link posted by Thilio, temperatures are
running high over the LoP . A very important feature in the 'game' and historically since
professional armies marched off to battle.
I see 2 camps forming, those who want to create as close as possible a Napoleonic battle and achieve a victory
those who will use the present rules designed in the game to achieve a victory.
In my rather limited experience, based on sequence HPS Battleground ect games the game designer
allowed for certain things to happen which did not follow a historical approach or looked like 'swarming' a
disorganized unit (after a melee) with skirmisher units and wiped out...and other behavior which the game
engine allowed.
So some rules of behavior had to be established for the general enjoyment of the game that were predicated
by a napoleonic reading of the behavior, for instance :
-skirmisher units must retreat in front of an 'advancing' column ,
- skirmisher units with a D chit (disorganized) must return to the parent unit and be reabsorbed -cohesion of the unit
HistWar being a much more dynamic napoleonic game has game appeal and game flaws like any game it is
up to the players to come to an agreement at the beginning of the encounter, and then on to Victory, or Defeat because
we know gentlemen, if there is a Victory for someone there is a Defeat for someone else .
So... on to the battleground with courage : I say this because so far I've be thoroughly trashed left and right and I'm
waiting for the center : Three times a charm
