Reconnaissance in progress

In the attached snapshot, you can see a corps status report. The corps was ordered to deploy. It says that the corps is doing Reconnaissance.
This is very nice. But could someone tell me what is the corps doing (or should be doing) in practice? Is it to send scouting cavalry elements?

P.S. In a previous e-mail I said that the corps would report as "scouting". My statement was inaccurate. It is "reconnaissance in progress" as shown in the picture.

Perhaps it should say "Reconnaisance In Force"? ...(aka, more dramatically, "Search And Destroy") ...
