New to Napoleonic games
« le: 24 février 2010, 20:52:50 pm »
Well, not entirely new...
In 1993, I played Fields of Glory (http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/106/Fields+of+Glory.html) which was truly awesome at the time.

I didn't play much since then, but over the past year I re-developed a strong interest in the Napoleonic age. The ads for the Total War game triggered me to find other Napoleon wargames, and here I am!

So far I have played the demo from this site. I was also pointed to the Take Command 2nd Massanas demo - played that too. Both seem nice, but somehow on my Macbook in bootcamp, the older TC2M game looks better than the HWLG (is this normal? I know that my Macbook has a non-gamer friendly graphics card). For instance, the rifle cloud puffs in TC2M look quite good, same for the cannon clouds. The clouds in HWLG look like flat grey discs on my laptop. Is there anything to be done about that?

I think HWLG is a better structured game though.

Ah I just saw the movies on this site and on youtube - my Macbook's graphic card is definitely not up to par. I cannot get good graphics...

The Take Command soldiers are sprites, and probably will look better than HWLG on a lower end graphics card.  But the HWLG graphics look pretty good with the right settings.  They're not quite state of the art, but nice enough that I enjoy looking at the various uniforms.  :)

Glad you found us, and hope that you'll enjoy the game.  The full game is much improved from the demo, by the way.

Oh, and I loved Fields of Glory at the time :)

Snap!

I think I've still got it up in the loft somewhere...  :D

I ended up here (and purchasing HWLG) after recently playing some Napoleonic scenarios created for Age of Rifles (running under DOSBox) and thinking "surely for the love of God someone must written a decent game for this period by now"....

...timing as they say is everthing.

Which year did JMM start work on LG ?........maybe it shows what a hard task it was to make a top quality game of this type.  Also makes you wonder why no one else has tried ?.
